How This Works

Age = difference between date of birth and target date. Years calculated by subtracting birth year from current year, adjusting if the birthday has not yet occurred this year. Months and days are then calculated as the remaining difference. Total days = (target date − date of birth) in milliseconds ÷ 86,400,000.

Leap years cause occasional rounding issues in age calculations. Also, the legal definition of your birthday (in most jurisdictions) is the day before the anniversary — so someone born on 1 March in a leap year legally turns 18 on 28 February in a non-leap year. For health, employment and legal purposes, your age is counted in complete years.
